Sometime back, we had written a detailed guide on how todisable ads from the Android TV home screen. We hoped that Google TV — the next refresh ofAndroid TV— will at least not have ads in the form of content recommendations. However, that is not true. Some of the cards and banners do seem intrusive and Google heavily pushes them to a majority of users, making the recommendation feel like an ad. So, if you want to outrightly disable personalized recommendations on Google TV then just go through our short guide below.
To disable personalized recommendations on Google TV, move to the profile menu and open “Settings“.
After that, open “Accounts and Sign-in” and then move to your account on the right side. You can press the right navigation key on the remote to jump to the right panel.
Here, scroll down andenable the toggle for “Apps-only mode“. As the name suggests, Apps-only mode only displays apps and not personalized recommendations from Google.
And just like that, you can disable personalized recommendations on Google TV. As you can see, the home screenonly shows appsand has no cards or any sort of smart suggestions.
