Microsoft Releases the First Windows 11 Public Beta

Afterannouncing its much-anticipated Windows 11last month, Microsoftreleased the first developer previewfor Windows Insiders in the Dev channel a few days later. The Redmond giant also confirmed to release a preview build for Windows Insiders in the Beta channel sometime in July. So, as promised, Microsoft has todayreleasedthe first public beta of Windows 11 for Windows Insiders in the Beta channel.

The first Windows 11 public beta has a build number of 22000.100, which is the same as themost recent Windows 11 preview in the Dev channel. However, as Microsoft states, the current Windows 11 build in the Beta channel is more stable and closer to the final build than the Dev channel one. So, Microsoft recommends those in the Dev channel switch over to the Beta channel to get more stable builds in the future.

Now, for those unaware,Windows 11 adds several new features, including new snap layouts, support for widgets, advanced gesture control, and many more. Plus, it brings a whole new look with redesigned Settings app, a modern file explorer, a new Action Center, and a new centered Start menu. Furthermore, Windows 11 brings a brand new App Store withsupport for Android apps. However, the Android app support and the new Amazon Appstore integration are not included in the current beta build of the OS.

It is also worth mentioning that users will needa compatible machineto run Windows 11 preview builds. You cancheck out the official requirements to run Windows 11on your PC or laptop andwhether or not your PC or laptop can run Windows 11.

For those who are currently in the Dev channel, you can switch to the Beta channel fromSettings -> Windows Update -> Windows Insider Program -> Choose your Insider settings. Now, do keep in mind that  Windows 11 builds in the Beta channel are more stable than those in the Dev channel, but they are still beta builds. So, it is wiser to run the current Windows 11 beta on a secondary machine rather than on your daily driver. Microsoft is yet to announce the official release date of Windows 11’s public build.
