Now, the video above is in Mandarin, but you can turn on the English subtitles to bridge the language barrier. So, the host of the video started the teardown process of the iPhone SE by taking out the SIM tray and taking the display apart.
Then he brought an already opened iPhone 8 to compare the internals of both the devices. Now comparing side by sideit is seen thatthe internals of both the iPhone SE and the iPhone 8 are exactly the same, with no changes to the layout whatsoever. The speakers, haptic engine, cameras battery, antennas and even the motherboard layout looks exactly like one another.
Now, just for kicks, the host unplugged the iPhone SE display panel and stuck it on to the iPhone 8, as it is a universal display panel for both the devices and as expected, it works on the iPhone 8.
Now, as the motherboard layout is also the same for the devices, the host took the motherboard of the iPhone SE and replaced it with the iPhone 8 motherboard. Although the motherboard layout is the same, the battery connector of the SE is different than the iPhone 8. So, to power the motherboard, the host took the iPhone 8 battery and made a temporary connection to test out the results.
So now, with the iPhone 8 motherboard and battery in place, the host powered on the iPhone SE and to no one’s surprise, it turned on and worked as it should. The speakers, the display and the haptic engine, all worked fine. However, the main problem was the camera. When the user turned on the camera of the iPhone SE, it was blank as it could not operate with the inferior A11 Bionic chip onboardinstead of the latest A13 Bionic. This prevented the rear camera to work properly, however, the front camera is seen to be working fine.
